Run for the Roses
On Saturday Gilroy Gardens hosted the annual Day in the County event for the Gilroy Foundation. For 38 years the Foundation has held A Day in the Country event. This year’s was one of the best!
Themed after the Kentucky Derby: Run for the Roses, guests filled the Garden pavilion. Gilroy Gardens might have a wide selection of hats for sale but this event brought out the finest bonnets the Gardens has ever seen.
Nearly two hundred guests sampled Mint Juleps, and local wines while wondering through the silent auction isles. Alex Villalobos of Gilroy Gardens prepared a Southern inspired dinner.
Ted Becker was the luckiest man in the house as he won both the Trip to Lexington, Kentucky and the $1,200 in Restaurant Certificates. The other big winners were the final bidders for the nine live auction items and the forty silent auction items. Jayson Stebbins was the MC and auctioneer. The event coordinators were Matt Titus and Rachel Traylor.
The Gilroy Foundation is a community foundation with over $12 million in assets. In 2017 the Foundation awarded $324,895 in community grants and $683,750 in scholarships. Since its founding in 1982 the Gilroy Foundation has awarded $7.4 million in grants and scholarships.
